For over 300 years, the British Royal Navy officially supplied its sailors with rum rations sourced from its colonies in the Caribbean, the birthplace of rum. Many tales have been told, with various degrees of accuracy, regarding the rum that was served. Its provenance, characteristics, and methods of distribution have been hotly debated and woven into brand stories, the modern liquid manifestations of which now sit on our shelves; but which of those stories hold water?

Join us for an historical deep dive into what, exactly, Navy rum was, and how an understanding of its rich history can enliven our relationship with all cane spirit today. We will be tasting five modern examples of modern Navy rum, including one in which our resident rum nerd, Alex, has tried his hand at blending and aging a recreation all his own.
